Right now (March – May 2014) Tapestry is meeting on Sunday mornings 10:30 – 11:45 am. We trying a time experiment to see if a morning time helps us to better reach people with the love of Jesus. In the past we have met in the evening from 6 – 7:15 pm. Come May we will consider whether we will continue to meet in the mornings or go back to evening worship gatherings.
You can usually find us on Sundays (we do special things every now and then at other announced locations) at Washington Elementary School, 3500 Prais Street, Stevens Point, Wisconsin.
Clothes! You must wear clothes to everything that Tapestry does. We’re pretty strict about that.
What type of clothes you wear are completely up to you. We are all pretty casual in our clothing selections. Yet truthfully, as long as you are wearing clothes, casual or formal, you’ll get along fine.
Hopefully something different.
Each week the Tapestry family comes together to worship. Our worship gatherings consist of folk worship music, people talking about their faith and the questions and struggles we all sometimes have, messages that come from our community, and ways for you be able to react to what has happened during the gathering. Sometimes we’ll watch a video while other times we’ll think and pray while music for thought is played. It is consistently different in its practice but consistently the same in its growth from within the community of Tapestry. This means that you’ll hear original songs, see original videos, and encounter other attempts by members of the Tapestry community to communicate their trust in JESUS.
It’s all pretty laid back and you can participate in as much or as little as you want.
This happens on Sunday evenings from 6-7:15 p.m. at Washington Elementary School (3500 Prais Street).
Churches are supposed to be about GOD and people rather than buildings. Therefore, we have opted to just rent space on Sunday evenings for our worship gatherings. It didn’t make sense to us to get a space and have it sit empty every day except for Sunday.
We do our worship gatherings at Washington Elementary School and everything else in homes and public spaces (much like the early Christians did it). That way we aren’t using GOD’s resources to maintain a building that isn’t used very much.
We do lots of other things on days other than Sundays (small group bible studies, gatherings, worship, etc). When we do those things we use other places around the community. You can always find where we are on our calendar or facebook page.
We believe that there is one true and living GOD,
…the Creator and Ruler of the universe. GOD has eternally existed in three persons: the FATHER (spirit), the SON (incarnate) and the HOLY SPIRIT (spirit). These three are co-equal, having the same divine attributes and perfections, and are one GOD. (Genesis 1:1,26-27; 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2,11; 2 Corinthians 13:14)
We believe that JESUS CHRIST is the SON of GOD,
… and is co-equal with the FATHER. Without ceasing to be GOD, JESUS left heaven and became human, lived a sinless human life, and offered HIMSELF as the perfect sacrifice for sinners by dying on a cross. HE arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate HIS power over sin and death. HE ascended to Heaven and is now exalted at the right hand of the FATHER, where, as our HIGH PRIEST, HE fulfills the ministry of REPRESENTATIVE, INTERCESSOR, and ADVOCATE. HE will return again to earth to reign as KING of KINGS, and LORD of LORDS. (Matthew 1:22-23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5, 14:10-30;Hebrews 4:14-15; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 1:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14-15; Titus 2:13)
We believe that the HOLY SPIRIT is equal with the FATHER and the SON, as GOD.
… The SPIRIT is present in the world to make men aware of their need for JESUS CHRIST. The SPIRIT is the supernatural agent in regeneration, and lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. through the SPIRIT’S indwelling Christians are provided with guidance and power for daily living, and understanding of spiritual truth. The Christian seeks to live under the SPIRIT’S control daily. (2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13, 14:16-17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3:16;Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:1; 2 Timothy 1:7;2 Peter 1:3,4)
We believe that mankind was created in the image of GOD to have fellowship with GOD,
… but through Adam’s disobedience, the entire human race was separated from GOD. Sin has affected every area of life, and as a result, man is incapable of regaining a right relationship with GOD through GOD’S own effort alone. (Romans 2:2-5, Ephesians 2:8-9, Genesis 1:27 & 9:6, Psalms 51:5 &58:3, Romans 5:12& 3:23, Ephesians 2:1)
We believe that the blood of JESUS CHRIST, shed on the cross, provides the sole basis for the forgiveness of sin
… and reconciliation with GOD. Therefore, the only means to salvation is belief in CHRIST’S substitutionary death and resurrection. Salvation is the gift of GOD brought to man by grace, apart from any works. Upon receiving the gift of salvation, the Christian receives the forgiveness of sin and eternal life, becomes a partaker of CHRIST’S life, death, and resurrection, becomes a new creation, and obtains a new identity as a child of GOD. (Acts 4:12, 13:38-39; 1 Corinthians 15:1-4; Romans 4:4-5 & 5:1; John 3:16; Ephesians 2:8-9; Acts 16:31; Ephesians 1:4-5)
We believe that the church is the body of CHRIST,
… a living spiritual organism of which JESUS CHRIST is the head. The members of the church are those who have trusted by faith the finished work of CHRIST. Members join their resources, spiritual gifts, and lives in order to accomplish the purpose of the church which is to glorify God by loving GOD and by making JESUS known to the lost world. (Ephesians 1:22-23and 5:24-30, 1 Corinthians 12:4-13, 27)
We believe the Bible was written by men divinely inspired
… and is the record of GOD’s revelation of Himself to man. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. It has GOD for its author, salvation for its end, and truth for its matter. It reveals the principles by which GOD judges us; and therefore is, and will remain to the end of the world, the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions should be tried. The criterion by which the Bible is to be interpreted is JESUS CHRIST. (Exodus 24:4; Deuteronomy 4:1-2; 17:19; Joshua 8:34; Psalms 19:7-10; 2 Timothy 3:15-17; Hebrews 1:1-2; 4:12; 1 Peter 1:25; 2 Peter 1:19-21.
Tapestry’s sponsoring church is Fellowship Church in Waupaca, Wisconsin. We are also affiliated with the Minnesota/Wisconsin Baptist Convention.
Rather than having a mission statement, we focus on what we dream to be. Those dreams are many. Our dreams concerning the church are:
- Tapestry dreams of being a group where faith effects more than just Sundays.
We believe that the Gospel impacts every area of a person’s life and culture. We reject unfounded categories that divide the world into uniquely sacred or purely secular. GOD is redeeming all of creation through JESUS. This means that JESUS wants us to live out HIS love in the way we treat our waitress, to how we talk with our neighbors, to how we take care of Creation, to how we relate to the weakest ones in our community. JESUS wants us to live out our faith in every part of our lives rather than just on Sundays. In other words, Tapestry is more about “being the church” rather than “going to church.” The religious word for this is being holistic.
- Tapestry dreams of being a group that does meaningful things.
We believe that the church exists for the world and not for herself – she is to introduce and usher in the Kingdom of GOD into every part of this world. This means we want to do things that are actually meaningful and helpful rather than just doing things because of ritual or because they are expected of churches. The religious word for this is being missional.
- Tapestry dreams of being a group that loves greatly.
We believe that salvation brings people together as a reflection of WHO GOD is. JESUS called those who follow HIM to love GOD and to love others. Since love is a verb we need to live this out in everything we do. We believe that loving GOD draw people together as they follow HIM. The religious word for this is community.
This whole thing has started out of my wife and I (Robert) praying (which can be a dangerous thing). We both became convinced that GOD was leading us to move to the Stevens Point Wisconsin area to find a group of people who are interested in starting a new church. After a great deal of prayer the Minnesota/Wisconsin Baptist Convention agreed with us and they have sponsored us to start a church in the Stevens Point/Plover area.
After a few months of meeting and talking with people from the Point are we started meeting every Sunday evening with a group of people who believe it is GOD’s desire to plant another church that will connect with people who are not presently clicking with another church in the area. We starting meeting every Sunday evening to eat a meal together, read through the Acts of the Apostles, pray together, and dream about what the church can be. This is how GOD is growing Tapestry.
On September 14, 2008 Tapestry started holding public worship gatherings.
A covenant in the bible is a promise/alliance between multiple parties. God makes such an alliance with His people and as a group of people trying to follow Jesus we also make such an alliance with each other. It is a promise we make to God and each other.
Here is our covenant with each other.
Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, and, on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, we do now, in the presence of God, angels and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another as one body in Christ.
We commit to pursue a more intimate relationship with God, for His glory, by devoting ourselves to prayer, the study of God’s Word, the pursuit of holiness, and life in this Christ-centered community of faith, hope, and love.
As we grow in our relationship with God, we will follow His example by caring for one another in every way – spiritually, emotionally, and physically. We will invest ourselves in the lives of others, and will open up our own lives for others to invest in us. God will be the centerpiece of our friendships, relationships, and marriages, and we commit to raising our children to be disciples of Christ. We will walk together through all seasons of life, no matter what struggles or victories may come our way. And, as the need will surely arise, we will resolve conflict according to the biblical model established by Christ and confirmed by the early church.
We will work together to fulfill the purpose and dreams of Tapestry, by maintaining unity in our personal and assembled devotions, actively using our spiritual gifts, abilities, and passions in ministry, being faithful in our attendance, participation, and giving, and by supporting the leadership of this church. Should we move from this place, as soon as possible we will unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s Word.
All this will be accomplished by Him, through Him, and for Him. For His is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory, Forever! Amen.
